Save Health and Fitness at the Y

What happened ?

In a recent YWCA Laniakea Board of Directors meeting, a decision was made to cancel all Health and Wellness programs effective March 31, 2024.   The Health and Wellness trainers were notified shortly after this meeting to inform them of the closure.   YWCA members and participants of the Health and Wellness program consist mainly of local residents, downtown office employees, and Kupuna from nearby communities.  The purpose of this site is to help spread aware of the growing problems that we all face in trying to maintain healthy lifestyles through fitness programs and social connections.  As we all know, Kupuna have limited budget resources to pay for fitness membership and need specialized trainers who understand potential mobility issues that naturally come with age.   Secondly, many downtown residents and office employees need a convenient fitness alternative to the large, expensive gyms.   Help Save Health and Fitness at the Y !

Partners ?

Who else can we partner with ?

The cruel reality is that many local residents, downtown office employees, and kupuna have limited income and cannot afford private gym membership on top of exercise class fees typically in the amounts of hundreds of dollar each month.  Essentially we  are being priced out of health and wellness programs.   It is proven that keeping our people heathy has long term benefits for our state in lower medical care costs.   As organizations seek higher returns on programs housed in their facilities, local residents and kupuna are replaced with wealthier clientele who can afford to pay premium rates.
Like many other countries in our world, embedded in Hawaii’s culture is caring for each other., now is the time to remind ourselves what ALOHA really means and how important it is in preservingHawaii's culture.

Help our kupuna and our downtown community by soliciting support from Hawaii Community Foundation, Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, Rotary Clubs, and other organizations that support wellness programs.
